The father of six Brad Pitt rushed to save a Young Girl, 6, who was nearly crushed against a fence by fans waiting to see him on Allied set.

Brad Pitt, 52, showed off his fatherly instincts without hesitation when a little girl in distress needed his help. New pictures show the actor and father-of-six coming to the little girl’s rescue, along with the help of his security team.

As if you needed another reason to absolutely adore Brad Pitt, he just provided you with one. On Sunday night, May 22, on the set of his new movie, Allied, in Grand Canaria, Spain when he noticed a large group of fans behind a metal fence trying to get his attention. While Brad is probably used to that sort of attention, one fan in particular caught his eye: a beautiful little girl with braids who seemed totally out of place.

When Brad and his security approached the fence the fans were so excited they became a little careless of their surroundings, and the little girl was nearly crushed against the fence. If it wasn’t for Brad’s quick thinking, in which he reached over the metal fence and lifter her up to safety, she could have been seriously injured. He’s a real hero!

In the pictures you can see that Brad is having a little one-on-one with the fan as she makes her way over the fence. Then Brad’s security team steps in, and they help her get to the other side as the actor watches carefully from just a foot or two away. Thankfully, she made it over safely and without any injuries.

Brad’s new movie, Allied, also co-stars the stunning Marion Cotillard who was also on set the night of the incident with the little girl. The film is set in 1942, according to it’s IMDb page, and is about a French-Canadian spy named Max who falls in love with a French agent named Marianne after a mission in Casablanca. Unfortunately, Max finds out that his wife might be a Nazi spy and is forced to investigate her true nature. Source link

Jay Z mentions Beyonce’s Lemonade and the late musical legend Prince, whose artist catalogue is on Tidal.com in his new ‘All the Way Up’ remix.

Jay Z has finally addressed Lemonade musically. The New York rapper referenced his wife Beyonce’s hit album, which alluded to his alleged infidelity.

Fat Joe tapped Hov for a full verse on the remix of ‘All the Way Up’ along with Remy Ma.

On the Tidal exclusive, Jay Z immediately jumps to talking about the record. ‘You know you made it when the fact/Your marriage made it is worth millions/Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is’ he opens up his verse.

Jay also mentions the late artist Prince, whose catalogue is on Tidal. He claims Prince’s music is protected there: ‘Prince left his masters where they are safe and sound/We never gonna let the elevator take him down.’

Besides paraphrasing Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ the verse’s final line can also be read as a reference to the fight between Jay Z and sister-in-law Solange Knowles in an elevator in 2014.

Twitter Announces New Caveats on 140 Character Limit http://www.crisherentertainment.com/twitter-new-140-character-limit/ http://www.crisherentertainment.com/twitter-new-140-character-limit/#respond Wed, 25 May 2016 08:38:17 +0000 http://www.crisherentertainment.com/twitter-announces-move-away-from-140-character-limit/ Twitter moves away from it's long-standing hard-lined adherence to a strict 140-character, and ditches some confusing and restrictive rules.

Twitter moves away from it’s long-standing hard-lined adherence to a strict 140-character, and ditches some confusing and restrictive rules.

Twitter’s long-standing policy has been one of hard-lined adherence to a strict 140-character rule regarding tweet length. Well, you know, except for that time not so long ago when they lost their minds and started toying around with expanding that length to 10,000 characters. We heard a rumor that Twitter would be bringing changes to their character limit, specifically that links and photos would no longer contribute to the count. It looks like at least one of those turned out to be true, but the snappy social site is also going to be rolling out some additional exceptions.
Take a look at their list:

Replies: When replying to a Tweet, @names will no longer count toward the 140-character count. This will make having conversations on Twitter easier and more straightforward, no more penny-pinching your words to ensure they reach the whole group.
Media attachments: When you add attachments like photos, GIFs, videos, polls, or Quote Tweets, that media will no longer count as characters within your Tweet. More room for words!
Retweet and Quote Tweet yourself: We’ll be enabling the Retweet button on your own Tweets, so you can easily Retweet or Quote Tweet yourself when you want to share a new reflection or feel like a really good one went unnoticed.
Goodbye, .@: These changes will help simplify the rules around Tweets that start with a username. New Tweets that begin with a username will reach all your followers. (That means you’ll no longer have to use the ”.@” convention, which people currently use to broadcast Tweets broadly.) If you want a reply to be seen by all your followers, you will be able to Retweet it to signal that you intend for it to be viewed more broadly.

So it looks like links are still going to count toward your character limit after all, but we’re getting some unexpected exceptions to make tweet-life even easier. Altogether, these changes should loosen the collar around the neck of your Twitter diction without fundamentally overhauling the platform. The company says they are making these looming changes public so that developers can start making alterations to their apps to accommodate for the new way Twitter will be counting characters. Kim Kardashian Pregnant Again? The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star takes pregnancy test Thursday, May 19, on a plane worried she was pregnant again.

A moment later, she shared the result on Snapchat by uploading a video of herself in front of a mirror showing her pregnancy test. “I’m legit in the airplane bathroom about to take a pregnancy test because I’m having a little bit of a scare,” Kim said in the video. “So, no big deal.”

Her scare turned out to be no big deal because the result said that she’s not pregnant. She then uploaded a picture of the pregnancy test with the words “not pregnant” on the screen.

Judging from her worry, the mother of two seemingly didn’t want to have another child. However, her husband Kanye West might want more children as she told Khloe Kardashian that he was ready to welcome another kid.

“I said, ‘No way,’ ” Kim revealed on “Kocktails with Khloe” finale. “I was so set on my two kids and how happy I was with my life the way that it is, but Kanye has been mentioning it every single day lately for the last 10 days.” Source link

Mayor Bill de Blasio answered listeners’ questions last year on Brian Lehrer’s radio show. The mayor said he would start taking radio calls every week.

For decades, the weekly call-in radio show with the mayor was a New York City tradition. It provided a chance for Sal from Brooklyn or anyone else from the five boroughs to get on the line directly with the city’s chief executive, and for the mayor at the time to reveal, inadvertently or deliberately, his personality and style of thinking.

But whereas his predecessors Rudolph W. Giuliani and Michael R. Bloomberg took calls throughout their terms, Mayor Bill de Blasio chose not to take up the mantle when he came to office in 2014, preferring, his aides say, to focus on deeds rather than words.

That changed on Friday. Even as Mr. de Blasio said that “the ultimate form of communications is action,” he began the first of what he said would be a weekly call-in segment with Brian Lehrer on the public radio station WNYC.

The about-face, which was not announced until Mr. de Blasio joined Mr. Lehrer on the air on Friday at 10 a.m., came the day after the mayor’s press secretary, Karen Hinton, publicly acknowledged that she would be resigning from her post next month amid investigations, negative headlines and struggles in the City Hall press operation.

“This comes at a tricky time for you,” Mr. Lehrer observed at the start of the show, referring to the impending departure of Ms. Hinton. “To be transparent to the listeners, we had offered this invitation at the beginning of your administration, and your team didn’t want it then.”

Mr. de Blasio, who called into the show, appeared intent on presenting himself as his own best spokesman. “I’m going to be doing lots of things to communicate directly to my fellow New Yorkers,” he said.

In recent weeks, the mayor has been a regular on the radio and, last month, began a quarterly television appearance on WNBC-TV, responding to pretaped questions from New Yorkers. The television program, and the radio appearances with Mr. Lehrer, have both been titled “Ask the Mayor.”

‘Selena a lovely girl… it’s all cool between everybody,’ Hailey Baldwin, who was linked to Bieber earlier this year, said about the feud rumors over Justin Bieber.

Hailey Baldwin has shot down rumors that she’s feuding with Selena Gomez over Justin Bieber. The 19-year-old model had nothing but sweet words to say about the “Hands to Myself” singer as she tried to set the record straight in a chat with Us Weekly earlier this week.

“I think it sucks that people try to start things like that. There’s never any truth to that, first of all,” Baldwin told the site when attending the opening of Magnum in New York City. “She’s a lovely girl. She’s very kind. Her and I have a lot of mutual friends and it’s all cool between everybody. We run in the same circles.”

Rumors about Baldwin and Gomez’s feud started a few months ago, after Stephen Baldwin’s daughter went public with Bieber in January and they were pictured together numerous times on multiple occasions. Some of the snaps showed the duo getting close and even kissing.

Baldwin and Bieber appeared to split in March. That same month, the Canadian heartthrob said in his GQ cover story that Baldwin was “someone I really love” and someone he didn’t want to “damage.”

“I know that in the past I’ve hurt people and said things that I didn’t mean to make them happy in the moment. So now I’m just more so looking at the future, making sure I’m not damaging them,” he told the magazine back then. “What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged. It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard… I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Corn Pone, Rebooted: Country’s New Humor “The Bobby Bones Show” is the biggest thing in country radio, on nearly 100 stations five mornings a week with Mr. Bones.

Lately, he’s been shining a light on a trend that he helped cultivate — a resurgence of humor in country music, which has made modest hits of albums that let mainstream and alternative country fans feel as if they’re in on the joke.

For one week in February, “Redneck ” by Wheeler Walker Jr., a provocative creation of the comedian Ben Hoffman, was both the No. 1 comedy album and the No. 9 country album. Granger Smith’s “Remington” arrived a month later, featuring jokey numbers by his outsized alter ego, Earl Dibbles Jr. And Mr. Bones’s own band, the Raging Idiots, a jocular duo that also features his show producer Eddie Garcia, recently released its first full-length album, “The Critics Give It Five Stars,” which not only made its debut atop Billboard’s comedy albums chart but landed at No. 4 on the country chart.

Country music has never been devoid of comedy: The Grand Ole Opry once featured the winking, rustic humor of Minnie Pearl, Grandpa Jones and Stringbean; the Statler Brothers cultivated the rube alter egos Lester Roadhog Moran & the Cadillac Cowboys; and Alan Jackson cast the comic Jeff Foxworthy in a music video. But at least from an outside perspective, the flirtatious party jams dominating the format in recent years seemed to repel humor. Now country is generating new, knowing ways of poking fun at itself in song.

Mike Dungan, the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music Group Nashville, noted that every country songwriting era has had wits like Roger Miller and Tom T. Hall. Brad Paisley has parlayed his drollness into a long-running gig as a host of the Country Music Association Awards and a new one as M.C. for the Wild West Comedy Festival in Nashville. Source link

New services and platforms are great for consumers, but Weak Laws Allow Music Revenue to be Siphon Away from the songwriters, performers and the industry.

Los Angeles — ON Sunday night, the entire music industry will pause during the Billboard Music Awards to commemorate the visionary musician Prince. And while the focus will be on his artistic legacy, Prince also fought throughout his career against digital piracy and for the rights of artists to control their own work and music revenue.

That’s a fight artists are losing. It’s been 17 years since Napster, the online file-sharing software, began flooding the Internet with free, illegally uploaded music, devastating musicians and the industry. While Napster is long gone, the looting continues, only now it is technology giants like Google and SiriusXM, along with streaming services like Pandora, that are responsible.

New services and platforms are great for consumers, but Weak Laws Allow Music Revenue to be Siphon Away from the underlying music, leaving songwriters, performers and the whole industry choking on their dust.

YouTube, which is owned by Google, is now the world’s dominant audio streaming platform, dwarfing Spotify and virtually every other service. Yet it pays artists and record companies less than a dollar in music revenue a year for every user of recorded music, thanks to rampant piracy on its site (by contrast, Spotify licenses its music and pays $20 per user each year).

The song “Drag Me Down” by One Direction appeared on YouTube 2,700 times after the service was asked to take down unlicensed copies. These 2,700 pirated uploads allowed Google to continue profiting from advertising while the artists got nothing.

The problem has gotten so bad that, in 2015, vinyl record sales generated more income for music creators than the billions of music streams on YouTube and its competitors.

Google has basic “digital fingerprinting” technology that could scrub both YouTube and its search results of illegal versions. But instead of safeguarding the work of artists, Google wields this tool as a bludgeon. Creators can either enter into a licensing agreement with YouTube at very low royalty rates, or get left at the mercy of pirates. What looks like protection for copyright holders is more of a protection racket benefiting Google.

Unfortunately, there is a sad history of undervaluing musicians in the United States. Terrestrial radio, a $17 billion industry, pays publishing rights (payments to songwriters) but has never paid artists or record companies for music. In addition, the satellite radio company, SiriusXM, pays below-market royalties, thanks to a giveaway it first wrested from Congress 20 years ago. Conglomerates like iHeartMedia (formerly Clear Channel Communications) and other online services like Pandora, which are required to pay artists for digital streams, have exploited federal copyright law to deny payments for work recorded before 1972 (songwriters are paid; performers are not). This means artists like Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Chuck Berry and John Coltrane never received a dime from AM/FM radio and or from many digital services for some of their greatest music.

The last meaningful legislation in this area was the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in 1998, which was based on the idea that creators should monitor the Internet for illegal copies of their works and give “notice” to websites and services to take pirated material down. Under the act’s “safe harbor” provisions, any service or site that makes a minimal effort to address these notices is immune from liability for piracy or theft.

That system may have made sense when it took minutes to download an illegal song. But today no individual can effectively police the millions of pirated files that mushroom online and reappear the instant after they are taken down. Google alone received almost 560 million takedown notices in 2015.

There are two concrete steps Congress can take that would allow musicians to be treated fairly. First, Congress should update the safe harbor rules of the copyright act to achieve the balance that was intended: protecting creators with effective tools in exchange for not burdening Internet companies with liability. That means strong, well-defined consequences for repeat offenders, easing the process for filing notices and ensuring that services are using the best technology to take pirated material off their sites and keep it off.

Second, Congress can address the original sin of AM and FM radio and close the loophole that allows radio companies to use music without paying artists. The Fair Play Fair Pay bill, which has Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York as a sponsor, would ensure that all music creators received fair-market-value pay for their work no matter what technology or service was used to play it. It has the support of hundreds of artists like Rosanne Cash, Duke Fakir of the Four Tops, Elvis Costello, Martha Reeves, Elton John and Common.

In 2015, after years of battling pirates, Prince said in an interview that the Internet “was over for anyone who wants to get paid.” With Congress’s help, it needn’t be.

Four Lesser-Known Windows 10 Features http://www.crisherentertainment.com/four-lesser-known-windows-10-features/ http://www.crisherentertainment.com/four-lesser-known-windows-10-features/#respond Mon, 23 May 2016 06:06:06 +0000 http://www.crisherentertainment.com/?p=26883 There are many new features and settings in Windows 10 here are a few lesser-known additions that we think are worth pointing out.

There are many new features and settings in Windows 10 here are a few lesser-known additions that we think are worth pointing out.

1. Scroll windows that aren’t active
In past versions of the Microsoft operating system, only the active window could be scrolled with the mouse. There were some free utilities that enabled the scrolling of background windows but in Windows 10 this function is now native and enabled by default. If you want to turn it off, go to Settings > Devices > Mouse & touchpad.

2. Command prompt updated with new functions
The command prompt is very useful and has been around a long time but its interface hasn’t changed much over the years. Now in Windows 10, there are finally some long-desired updates. The most noticeable make copying and pasting easier. Now when you have a long command you want to enter into the command line, you can use the standard keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Also, text can be made to wrap when resizing the command prompt window. Use the Properties sheet to make various settings (example shown below). Details of the new command prompt window can be found here.

3. New (but obscure) video recorder
Windows has long had a way to make and save screenshot captures but has had no built-in way to make videos of the screen. Windows 10 now has a tool that will let you make videos of an open program or app. However, you might not notice it since it is a feature aimed at Xbox gamers. It is called the “Game bar”. Although it is part of the Windows 10 Xbox app, the Game bar can be opened for most open apps with the keyboard shortcut Winkey+G. (The shortcut does not work for a desktop with nothing open.) The bar initially opens as shown in the first graphic below. You have to indicate that the open app is a game (even if it isn’t). Then you will get the Game bar (second graphic below) with various options. Details of how to use this feature can be found at this link.

4. Print to PDF
Windows has added the ability to create a PDF from many types of files with a native printer driver. The print function of many (but not all) applications will now include the option to create a PDF. However, the PDF printer is not enabled by default. To make the feature available, open the Settings dialog from the Start menu and select ‘Devices’. In the left pane of the Devices window, select ‘Printers & scanners’. The image below shows a partial view of the window that opens. To enable the PDF function, click ‘Microsoft Print to PDF’. Google is phasing out support for Flash on Chrome Browser. By the end of the year Flash will be replaced as the default media plugin in Chrome by HTML 5.

This is good news. At long last Google is phasing out support for Flash from its highly popular Google Chrome Browser. By the end of the year Flash will be replaced as the default media plugin in Chrome by HTML 5. Although it will no longer be the default media plugin it will for the time being, be still included with the browser but its use will be limited by default to 10 Flash intensive sites: YouTube.com, Facebook.com, Yahoo.com, VK.com, Live.com, Yandex.ru, OK.ru, Twitch.tv, Amazon.com and Mail.ru. Other sites can be enabled for Flash by manual over-ride.

For years it has been known that Adobe Flash is prone to security vulnerabilities but it historically has been so widely used by websites for videos and animated site features that it has been largely impractical to do without it. This started changing when Apple dropped support for Flash in iOS and has accelerated since the the release of HTML 5 which offered a viable and more secure alternative.

Many websites have now dropped Flash altogether and with the Google announcement its days are numbered. This is welcome news from a security perspective. Source link

James Blake: The Colour in Anything http://www.crisherentertainment.com/james-blake-the-colour-in-anything/ http://www.crisherentertainment.com/james-blake-the-colour-in-anything/#respond Fri, 20 May 2016 13:17:00 +0000 http://www.crisherentertainment.com/james-blake-the-colour-in-anything/ The Colour in Anything is the third studio album by English singer-songwriter and producer James Blake, released on 6 May 2016 by Polydor Records.

The Colour in Anything is the third studio album by English singer-songwriter and producer James Blake, released on 6 May 2016 by Polydor Records.

It’s not James Blake’s fault that The Color in Anything came out in the middle of a rainy week. Or it might be; the circumstances seem almost planned. Maybe the team plotting the surprise release of this album was watching storm fronts, waiting for ideal new-James-Blake-album conditions. On first impressions alone, they succeeded wildly: When bed sheets are in disarray, when grey light seeps into wet windows, and the sky is an interminable reminder that there is always a chance of showers, his particular brand of impressionistic melancholy is hard to resist. Stay in bed or descend out into the streets, it doesn’t matter, his music finds a way to summon personal rain clouds that follow you wherever you go.

In keeping with his last two albums, The Colour in Anything is a hard, frank, and unsparing listen. But if you listen closer, you will notice some tonal shifts in the fog. For one, Blake shed the monomania of his past work, allowing other voices and sounds to creep in. He’s noted in interviews that The Colour in Anything is meant to represent a sea-change, personally, musically, and geographically. The disposition of this record is suppose to reflect its milieus: Southern California, friendship, and new love. Seven of its 17 tracks were co-produced by Rick Rubin. Much of the album was also mixed and mastered at Rubin’s Shangri-La studios in Malibu. Frank Ocean and Justin Vernon appear throughout, lending writing and production help. There’s also Connan Mockasin, who appears, bass in hand, for a song. James has stepped out of his London bedroom and invited collaboration at an unprecedented level. Clocking in at 76 minutes, The Colour in Anything is Blake’s wonderfully messy dive into maximalism.

All that said, in the best way possible, in no way shape or form is The Colour in Anything a rapid departure or reversal of what Blake does well. He still paints in deep blues and greys. His production is still unparalleled, spacious, and impossibly textured. His voice is still chilly and metallic, but maintains all its choir boy charm. His music is still towering and menacingly sad. He sings almost exclusively about lost love (“While you were away, I started loving you”), miscommunication (“I’m sorry I don’t know how you feel”), miasma (“I hope my life is no sign of the times”), and defeat (“I want it to be over”). It can be brutal to hear the microscopic variations of themes hammered over and over again, making the album’s pace something between apocalyptic and glacial. Each listen is draining in its way, and when it’s over it feels like decades have passed. It can be so self-indulgent and extravagantly sad that it comes close to ruin porn. But it’s worth it. And there are positive messages to eke out of the experience, vitally important ones; that it’s all right to be hurt, or alone, that heartbreak helps fuel the flow of life.

As contemporary electronic music moves towards more caustic, crunchy, and self-referential tropes, Blake’s music is almost resolutely old fashioned. It deploys auto-tune, expressive (bordering on Platonic) percussion, minimalist pianos, and throwback sub-bass warble and womps. He distills his influences of R&B, gospel, and the wide patina of British dance music in such strange and ineffable concoctions that it makes it difficult to not rewind certain chunks of drum breakdowns and airy synths continually. The melancholic funk of “I Hope My Life (1-800 Mix)” or the dive bomb synth swoops of “Radio Silence” show Blake’s ability to orchestrate moments that mimic the stark romantic bombast of a Caspar David Friedrich painting.

Yet ironically Blake’s own grasp of lyric writing is still immature. He is never clever, catchy, or subtle. If anything he can even be comically melodramatic (“Where is my beautiful life?”) or annoyingly whiny (“I can’t believe that you don’t want to see me”). It makes it so that you wish he would just hum and slur his words into indistinct hunks of emotion. There are also several missteps in how his voice is treated throughout the record. A high pitched vocal processing in “My Willing Heart” is nearly unlistenable. Guest Bon Iver‘s “hooooo” at the start of “I Need a Forest Fire” is laughable in its wimpy approximation of bravado.

But these flubs are all forgivable. For the most part his singing can be vertiginous, isolating, and induce rapture when stretched into vast choruses. And when he’s alone at the piano, turning off the electronics, Blake approaches the sublime. He may never be able to reproduce the discomfiting beauty of his cover of “A Case of You” but he can still yoke tears from dry eyes in vulnerable songs like “F.O.R.E.V.E.R.” or the album’s title track. In closer “Meet You in the Maze,” arguably the album’s best song, he abandons instruments all together and sings in a multitudinous acapella that washes away the harrowing experience of the last hour in a rush of catharsis. It’s the closest the album comes to an anthem, and it’s heartwarmingly about self-care, discovery, and acceptance. After the probing self-consciousness that preceded it, these five minutes of fragility feel healing. “It’s me who makes the peace in me…Music can’t be everything,” he sings, a moment of pained honesty showing that amidst the grand big-budget drapery of this album, its goals are actually quite modest. At the end of the day Blake just wants to prioritize happiness and self-knowledge above all else. It’s a thoroughly unhip statement that makes you believe smiling, even if it hurts, is the coolest possible thing in the world you can do.

Four Tet – “BACK2THESTART”

Who knows what unreleased gems lurk within the hard drives of the ever-prolific Kieran Hebden, a.k.a. Four Tet?

After fielding questions from trainspotting fans for months about the mysterious song that appeared on his Rinse FM mix last year, Hebden put out the previously unreleased Ellie Goulding-sampling track last week called “BACK2THESTART“.

DOWNLOAD

I’ve been loving this track and giving it some serious spins on my show lately. Not only is it a great standalone track, but for DJing purposes, it’s got a nice balance of house, techno, and breakbeat elements that makes it super flexible to work into all kinds of mixes.

Chance The Rapper & Lil B – Free (Based Freestyles Mixtape)

You won’t see his words quoted on cans of Sprite, but you gotta hand it to Lil B, whatever shortcomings you may feel he has as a lyricist, he has managed to build a name for himself as an artist by operating under his own set of rules – haters be damned.

2015 has been a relatively quiet year for the Based God, but he returned with a vengeance with a new mixtape, and a new partner in crime – Chance The Rapper.

Free (Based Freestyles Mixtape) finds Chance operating under Lil B‘s rules: loose, spontaneous, and often perilously close to the rails. Think of this as the anti-Compton.

I’ll admit, this mixtape isn’t for everyone. For every great punchline, there’s 3 or 4 moments that’ll leave you shaking your head incredulously, but like Saturday Night Live, you’ve got to respect the danger of the live element of the endeavor, and in the moments where they do pull it off, the results are even more thrilling than your usual fare.

You can download the tracks a la carte on Lil B’s soundcloud page.

**BONUS** Chance The Rapper – “Israel (Sparring)” (ft. Noname Gypsy)

On a completely different note, Chance The Rapper put out this laidback track earlier this week.

VA – Do Hits Vol. 2

Music from all over the world has never been more accessible to the music carnivore than it is today. Youtube, filesharing, and boutique labels catering to niche sounds have made it easier than ever to access today’s K-Pop hits or yesterday’s Turkish psychedelic folk classics.

If you’ve ever wondered about what modern Chinese underground electronic music sounds like (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?), Chinese record label, Do Hits is here with a cool new 10 track compilation to quench your curiosity.

It’s an interesting collection, highlighting the similarities in the music produced in China as much as the differences, and certainly worthy of a listen.

You can “name your price” on Do Hits’ bandcamp page to download this compilation.

Hat tip to the folks at the Mad Decent blog for never leaving any stone unturned in their quest for new sounds and for introducing me to this release. Source link

Don Benson, former president and CEO of Lincoln Financial Media Company, will be the 2016 recipient of the National Radio Award in Nashville, Tenn.

WASHINGTON–The 2016 recipient of the National Radio Award has been announced. Don Benson, former president and CEO of Lincoln Financial Media Company, will receive the award at this year’s Radio Show in Nashville, Tenn.

“This recognition is timely and fitting for Don, who is held in the highest regard for his integrity and genuine commitment and service to broadcasting,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Radio John David.

While at Lincoln Financial Media Company — a career that spanned more than 30 years — Benson rose through the ranks until he oversaw all aspects of the company’s 15 radio stations in Atlanta, Miami, San Diego and Denver.

Before joining LFMC, Benson began his media career at WMAK/Nashville. He’s had stints at Western Cities Broadcasting as corporate vice president of programming, KIIS(FM) in Los Angeles as vice president of operations and as executive vice president of operations at the media consultant firm, Burkhart/Douglas & Associates.

Benson has served multiple terms on both the Executive Committee of NAB’s Board of Directors and as Radio Board Chair. He’s also served terms on the Board of Directors of the Radio Advertising Bureau and has chaired the Arbitron Advisory Council.

The National Radio Award won’t be Benson’s first accolade. Benson is a recipient of The Media Financial Management Association’s Avatar Award, a 2010 inductee to the Vanderbilt University Student Media Hall of Fame, as well as a 2009 inductee to the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.

Benson will receive the National Radio Award at the Radio Luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 21, which is an event taking place during the 2016 Radio Show held Sept. 21-23 in Nashville, Tenn. Source link

Uma Thurman in pink Schiaparelli at the Cannes and the layered fabric seems to add weight to her midsection in a really unflattering way.

Honestly, this year’s Cannes Film Festival has been lacking in some serious glamour and some serious star wattage. Yes, Julia Roberts came out and yes, Kristen Stewart was the It Girl of the festival. But high-wattage moments were few and far between. So I had high hopes for this year’s Cannes amfAR gala, but the turnout was severely muted.

Uma Thurman was quite literally one of the few “bright spots” at amfAR. Uma chose this hot pink Schiaparelli Couture gown which… looks amazing. It’s a great dress and she looks wonderful.

Irina Shayk in Miu Miu. This is fine. It fits, it’s flirty, it’s pretty and it’s uncontroversial. I’m sure lots of women would love to own this dress. The only thing I have to ask is… are those bejeweled candy canes on the bodice?!

Helen Mirren wore this rather magical Temperley London gown. It’s such a joy to see her on the red carpet, and I always love to see what she’s chosen. This one is a little bit matronly, but the sheer parts help make it look somewhat hip.

The Weinstein Co. is staying in the Quentin Tarantino business. Harvey and Bob Weinstein have worked with him for 25 years, starting with Reservoir Dogs.

The company has acquired worldwide rights, with the exception of France, to the documentary 21 Years: Quentin Tarantino.

The film is a behind-the-scenes look at Tarantino’s revolutionary body of work, including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained.

Bob and Harvey Weinstein have a long history with the auteur, working with him 25 years ago on Reservoir Dogs and all his projects since including the most recent film, The Hateful Eight.

The film is produced and directed by Tara Wood, who previously helmed 21 Years: Richard Linklater and is selling the next installment in Cannes.

Said Harvey Weinstein in a statement: “Working with Quentin Tarantino time and time again continues to be one of the highlights in my career both at Miramax and TWC – not only because he’s one of our industry’s true visionaries and auteurs, but because he’s become a true friend to Bob and me over the past 20 years. There’s a universal understanding when you hear the name Tarantino. Tara’s film will give audiences a glimpse into the man we have had the honor of knowing and we couldn’t think of a better home for a film documenting Quentin.”

The deal for the project was negotiated by James Allen, David Glasser, Jennifer Malloy and Michal Podell Steinberg for TWC with Tara Wood on behalf of Wood Entertainment. Source link
